The Montville Township Board of Education approved its consent resolutions by roll call after the public participation portion of the meeting. Several individual abstentions were recorded for specific agenda items (noted during roll call). A field trip location change from Newark to Phillipsburg raised the bus price to $23.45 per student for that trip.
Board members recognized ShopRite Stars for the second marking period. The program highlighted students across categories: Amna Bukhari (academics), Avery Arcaro (mathematics/athletics), Natalia Judek (arts), Darren (community service) and Tahira Chawardi (leadership). The district noted Sunrise ShopRite donated $1,000 to the class of 2026 in support of the recognition program.
As part of the agenda, the board approved the hiring of Doug Sanford as assistant superintendent; Sanford thanked the board and said he will transition from his role as high school principal after almost 15 years in that position and begin the assistant superintendent role in July.
The meeting closed after committee reports and routine administrative updates.
