Resident says Good Samaritans were charged after helping Gonzales officer

“To my behold, and also shame, those 4 individuals who helped out the officer ended up getting charged and got sent to court, which makes no sense at all,” Martinez said. He asked the council to review the picture and the videos and said, “You guys just ruined 3 teenagers’ lives by giving them these charges that had nothing to do with them but step in and help out an officer.”
The council listened; no formal action or response was taken at the meeting, and the mayor moved on to other agenda items after Martinez finished his remarks.
The remarks were recorded during general public comment; the council did not schedule or announce any immediate follow‑up during the meeting. Further review or response would require either a staff report, request from a councilmember, or an inquiry to the Police Department.
