Residents press Magna council on Webster Center plans and long-running parking enforcement complaints

Several residents used the Nov. 18 public-comment period to press the council on local facilities and code enforcement. Teresa Brown urged the city to remove and rebuild the Webster Center (the city’s former senior center), arguing an 8,200-square-foot retrofit does not meet community needs and comparing it with a 20,000-square-foot facility elsewhere.
"This building is not historical and needs to be raised," Brown said, arguing the city would be better served by building a larger facility. Staff responded elsewhere in the meeting that a construction-management agreement for the Webster Center will be considered on Dec. 9.
Another resident, Darren Wood, said he is interested in buying several city-owned lots (including a parcel on Copper Bend Road) and described his construction background and plans for a custom home.
Kelly Pope delivered a lengthy public complaint about residential parking enforcement, saying she began receiving tickets after long-standing parking patterns that she described as 'grandfathered' changed. Pope described repeated citations, property damage to vehicle mirrors, and difficulty getting consistent responses from code enforcement and the sheriff's substation. She said she has appealed tickets and sought assistance from officers and staff.
UPD Magna responded in stakeholder remarks, describing a new parking-reporting tab on the UPD Magna webpage (a smart-sheet form accessible via QR code) that will notify traffic division staff and the two traffic officers when complaints are filed. UPD also provided recent enforcement statistics (last month: 1,541 calls for service; 158 criminal citations; 253 civil parking ordinance citations) and said it would share the reporting link with MSD and Magna City.
What residents can do UPD advised that residents can use the online form (or QR code) to submit an address, a narrative and contact information; the submission will notify traffic staff for follow-up. Council members urged staff and UPD to coordinate on the complaints raised during public comment.
Next steps Staff said the Webster Center construction-management agreement will be placed on the Dec. 9 agenda for council consideration and MSD will share the UPD reporting link with the city.
