The Senate passed Substitute Senate Bill 5,905, which creates an exemption for court and port workers who participate in the federal railroad retirement plan so they are not required to contribute to both the federal plan and the state's Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Sponsor Senator Short said the bill resolves back-payment and pension issues for small port employers such as the Port of Pend Oreille and the Port of Vancouver and praised agency input in crafting the language.
The measure was advanced to third reading and final passage; the secretary reported a constitutional majority and substitute Senate Bill 5,905 was declared passed.
