Council adopts CEQA exemption for Tucker Road fencing project funded from general fund

The Tehachapi City Council approved staff's recommendation to adopt a CEQA categorical exemption for a Tucker Road entrance project that will install roughly 3,000 feet of three-rail fence on both sides of Tucker Road between the Highway 58 on/off ramps and the bridge overpass.
Development Services staff told the council the project aims to beautify the city entrance and prevent vehicles from pulling off the roadway and dumping trash. "This will be coming out of the general fund," a staff member said when asked about financing. Staff said the city is coordinating Caltrans permits because the work is within Caltrans right-of-way and that a contractor will perform the fence installation; the project will go out to bid soon.
The staff report said the project is consistent with CEQA section 15303(e) and that staff will file a notice of exemption. Council voted 3-0 to adopt the CEQA exemption and advance the project toward procurement.
Next steps: staff expects to solicit bids within a week and return to council with bid results and recommended award.
