Cypress School District swears in two newly elected trustees

The Cypress School District board of trustees formally administered the oath of office to newly elected trustees Carrie Hayashida and Jamie Needham during the board’s Dec. 16 regular meeting. Superintendent Zalavs led the ceremony and invited family and friends to take photographs afterward.
The swearing-in took place early in the meeting as part of a special activities item. Each trustee repeated the oath, pledging to support and defend the U.S. and California constitutions and to faithfully discharge the duties of the office. Superintendent Zalavs called the pair to the podium and congratulated them after they completed the oath.
Joanne Donskoy, vice president of the Association of Cypress Teachers, welcomed the new trustees on behalf of the union and said the organization looks forward to working with them. "Welcome Trustee Needham to the school board, and we look forward to working with you as well," Donskoy said.
The ceremony was followed immediately by the board’s organizational items and routine agenda business. The board did not take separate votes related to the oath; it was presented as a ceremonial step required for newly elected members.
