AngloGold Ashanti representatives described acquisition consolidation in the Beatty district, permitting and EIS work at North Bullfrog, feasibility and reserve work for Merlin/Arthur, expected job counts and capital estimates for Arthur, and community outreach including hydrologic studies and tortoise mitigation.
AngloGold Ashanti presented an update Feb. 19 on its Beatty district efforts in Nye County, including work at North Bullfrog and the larger Merlin/Arthur deposits. Joel Donelson (vice president for sustainability) and Lisonbee Anderson (community & government relations) described recent acquisitions that consolidated nearby claims, ongoing environmental and hydrologic study work, and coordination with the Bureau of Land Management on an environmental impact statement (EIS) for North Bullfrog.
Donelson said the company anticipates issuing a reserve declaration for Merlin in 2026, continues feasibility and hydrology work, and expects record-of-decision timing tied to the BLM EIS schedule. He outlined mitigation plans that include tortoise fencing and translocation ahead of construction, and said the company is investing in community outreach, tribal consultation and a five-year investment framework focused on housing, infrastructure and health care. An internal socioeconomic study cited construction and operations job estimates and projected annual tax revenue figures tied to the North Bullfrog project.
Commissioners pressed for specifics about drilling, time to production and commercial terms for recent acquisitions; the company said they would provide more detail as permitting and reserve work progress. Donelson said Arthur capital costs could be on the order of $3–4 billion with production expected in the early 2030s under current timelines, and estimated multi-decade mine life for some projects. He acknowledged costs and grade declines statewide but characterized the projects as positioned to support Nevada production over the next decades.
