Butte‑Silver Bow council approves $10,000 state grant to support Veterans Treatment and DUI courts

The Butte‑Silver Bow Council of Commissioners on Feb. 18 suspended the rules to add Communication 2026‑98 and held a public hearing on a time‑sensitive $10,000 grant from the Montana Office of Court Administrator. Deputy County Attorney Mike Clegg explained the grant will fund programs serving justice‑involved veterans and DUI offenders and that the county has an MOU and will amend its budget to pass grant funds through as expenditures are incurred.
Clegg told commissioners the program is a repeat of a successful pilot and that the Supreme Court administrator’s office asked the county to run it again to collect data for possible statewide expansion. After calling for proponents and opponents — and hearing proponents but no opponents — the council voted to place Resolution 2026‑06 on final reading and approved the budget amendment by recorded voice vote (10 yays, 0 nay).
The action will amend the FY26‑27 budget to receive and spend the $10,000 grant for the Veterans Treatment Court and the Butte‑Silver Bow DUI Court; the county indicated the project must be completed by the end of the fiscal year so the state can incorporate results into broader data collection.
