Senate adopts resolution recognizing Washington-linked athletes at Milano Cortina 2026

The Washington State Senate on Feb. 10 adopted Senate Resolution 8684 recognizing Washingtonians competing at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Senator Richeli, who introduced the resolution, said the measure honors ‘‘athletic excellence, determination, perseverance, and competition that transcends borders’’ and notes that the Milano Cortina 2026 Games will run in February and March 2026. The resolution records that more than 90 countries will participate and that the Team USA delegation includes athletes with ties to Washington state; the resolution recognizes nine Washington-linked athletes and cites their participation at the highest competitive levels.
The resolution text, read on the floor, highlights athletes’ preparation and character and asks the Senate to stand united in respect and admiration for their accomplishments. After brief remarks in support from the sponsor, the presiding officer put the question on adoption; members signaled assent and the chair announced the resolution was adopted.
The adoption was a ceremonial recognition and did not create new law or appropriate funds. The resolution names Washington-connected athletes and refers to Western Washington University alumni among those honored but does not, on the floor, identify funding changes or policy directives arising from the resolution. The Senate then returned to other business following adoption.
