Committee advances $9,000 ARPA grant for 'Talk With My Daughters' program

The Cuyahoga County Healthy Human Services & Aging Committee on Jan. 22 advanced Resolution 20250018, which would award up to $9,000 from a district ARPA community grant fund to the Northeast Ohio Black Health Coalition for its "Talk With My Daughters: Black History Meets Black Health" program.
Clerk read the resolution into the record before Sharon Spruill, the coalition’s healthy communities director, described the program: an event honoring Rosa Parks’ birthday with village elders guiding conversation among African American women and emphasizing healing and community empowerment. Spruill said the coalition has hosted the event since 2018 and thanked the committee for funding.
The committee moved the resolution to the full council on second reading and approved advancing it by voice vote. Conwell noted committee consideration is only one step; she said final council action is scheduled for Feb. 11. The coalition provided informational materials to committee members and invited further questions or participation.
"We will love that," Spruill said when Conwell suggested the county women’s health commission might participate. The committee’s approval advances the ARPA-funded grant to the full council for additional readings and final passage.
