Commission reappoints cemetery and health district representatives; staff retirement announced

The Churchill County Board of Commissioners approved two reappointments and completed routine business at its meeting.

The board reappointed Hillary Page Hiscott to the Churchill County Cemetery Board for a four-year term retroactive to Jan. 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2029. County staff stated her prior term expired Dec. 31, 2025 and recommended her reappointment. A motion to reappoint carried with three recorded ayes. The board also reappointed Don Winton as Churchill County’s representative to the Central Nevada Health District Board. Staff summarized CNHD bylaws, noting each jurisdiction may appoint two members, members serve two-year terms and may not serve more than 12 consecutive years without a one-year break. The reappointment was recorded as a two-year term beginning March 6, 2026 and running through March 31, 2028. A motion to reappoint carried with three recorded ayes.

The consent agenda was approved as submitted after the chair asked whether any items should be pulled; none were. The board approved prior meeting minutes from Jan. 21, 2026 earlier in the meeting.

During commissioner and staff reports, staff member Pam announced she will retire; she said her last regular board meeting will be March 11 and her official retirement date will be April 2, and she thanked colleagues for their cooperation. Commissioners also reported on local events including a nursing program renovation at Western Nevada College and community recognition for wrestler Carson Malindi.

The meeting adjourned after housekeeping items including claims and payroll circulation.
