Board accepts clean 2023–24 financial audit; district rated a ‘low‑risk auditee’

Trustees on Jan. 27 accepted the Newport‑Mesa Unified School District’s 2023–24 financial audit after hearing a summary from Christie White of Christie White Inc.
White told the board the financial statements received an unmodified (clean) opinion, footnotes and capital‑asset reporting were reviewed, and the district had no compliance findings in its federal and state program audits. “You are a low‑risk auditee,” White said, noting no noncompliance items were found during the engagement.
Business services staff said the auditor reports directly to the board and that the district provided auditors unfettered access to records. Trustees asked clarifying questions about scope and the firm’s client mix; White said the firm audits districts statewide and uses consistent testing on attendance and revenue recognition regardless of funding source.
The board moved to accept the audit report by roll call; the motion carried.
