Anaheim Elementary board approves waiver to change ESY schedule for 2024–25

Staff explained the requested change is to move from 20 days at 4 hours per day to 16 days at 5 hours per day. Assistant Superintendent Yadira Moreno said the shift "will facilitate an alignment with the dates of general education summer instructional program, support increased opportunities for inclusive programming, reduce challenges for families with students in multiple programs and support greater cohesion for staff and students." Board discussion clarified the change equates to approximately the same or slightly more total instructional hours (from about 78 total hours to about 82 total hours) and that the waiver must be submitted to the California State Board of Education for final approval.
A special‑education teacher asked whether parents would be given a choice; staff said the proposal has been discussed with leadership teams, LCAP committee, unions (AEA, CSEA) and would be submitted to state authorities for final consideration. The board then took a motion to adopt the waiver application; the motion carried 5–0.
