The lieutenant governor told the committee the $10 million removal affected the office's maintenance and repair money for state parks and said he had been unable to secure an explanation for that preamble action. Parks reported record visitation—about 2.1 million visitors in the most recent year—and increases in revenue and visitor-driven economic activity. State parks director Brandon Burris told senators roughly $2.8 million of direct repairs and immediate needs would address the most pressing failures (lift pumps, sewage, equipment, air-conditioning and mowers) and keep facilities operational through the summer.
Committee members asked whether some already-budgeted funds are restricted (statutory dedications) and whether recurring repair allocations are sufficient. DOJ and Fiscal Services slides showed FY27 recommended increases for acquisition and major repairs in CRT's budget; the lieutenant governor and park leadership said they are evaluating priorities and pursuing public-private partnerships for cabins and visitor infrastructure to increase long-term self-sufficiency.
Senators signaled interest in restoring some FY26 funding and asked for a prioritized list of repairs. The lieutenant governor said the $10 million was removed from FY26 preamble language but that the FY27 recommended budget does include acquisition and major repairs funding, contingent on not reinstating restrictive preamble language.
