Board discusses recent vandalism and downtown security; extends security schedule and urges incident reporting

Members emphasized that security cannot be everywhere at once but that regular incident reporting improves the city’s ability to respond. "The more that we report it, the more that they could react to it," the chairman said, urging businesses to document and report incidents so authorities can allocate resources. The board said it extended security schedules to eliminate an afternoon gap and plans further coordination with the parking authority and Rutgers security teams.
Separately, members raised operational concerns about garbage totes left on George Street following street closures and several damaged new trash cans; staff were asked to work with the clean team and DPW to inventory issues and pursue enforcement or collection as appropriate.
