Senator Young introduced legislation on Jan. 22 to amend the statutory language that governs the state child fatality advisory committee. The proposal, read by the clerk on the Senate floor, would add several ex officio positions to the committee: the executive director of the South Carolina Commission for Community Advancement and Engagement, the state child advocate, a county coroner or medical examiner, and a solicitor.
The reading clerk stated that the bill "amends a code relating to the establishment of the state child fatality advisory committee so as to add the executive director of the South Carolina Commission for Community Advancement and Engagement and amending further sections so as to include the executive director of the South Carolina Commission for Community Advancement and Engagement, the state child advocate, a county coroner, or medical examiner, and a solicitor as members who serve ex officio." The measure was referred to the Family and Veterans Services Committee for consideration.
