Senate advances two joint resolutions, carries over several bills; adjourns early

The South Carolina Senate on Jan. 22 handled routine calendar business, advancing two joint resolutions on third reading and carrying over several bills by voice vote before adjourning.
The reading clerk presented a joint resolution (S 7 69) providing continuing authority to pay state government expenses for fiscal year 2627 if the year began without a general appropriations act; the presiding officer put the question on third reading and announced, "Ayes have it." The Senate gave S 7 69 a third reading.
A separate joint resolution (S 779) to provide each member of the General Assembly a $1,000 monthly legislative expense allowance also received a third reading after a voice vote in which the presiding officer announced the ayes had it.
The Senate approved motions to carry over other calendar items by voice vote, including S 52 and S 76. No recorded roll-call tallies were entered in the session record for those voice votes.
Members asked for and were granted leaves of absence for the day, and several unanimous-consent requests to adjourn in memory of recently deceased community members were approved "without objection." On a motion that the Senate "do now adjourn," the presiding officer announced the ayes had it; the Senate adjourned until noon on Tuesday, weather permitting.
The session record does not show committee hearings or floor debate that altered the substance of the two joint resolutions; both were advanced by the chamber on voice votes.
