Airport manager: AWOS equipment shipping dates set; runway repaving and apron renovation planned

Airport staff provided an update on instrument and infrastructure projects, saying AWOS equipment licenses and shipments are in motion and that airfield pavement projects are upcoming.
The airport manager (S6) told the board the VHF license for the Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) was granted on Jan. 28 and that the UHF license is in hand. "The tower is planned to ship on March 26," S6 said, and added that AWOS sensors are planned to ship on April 3; once equipment arrives the contractor and airport will hold a preconstruction meeting to set the installation schedule.
S6 said the installation will require shutting the airport for one day to perform under-tower or other hazard-mitigation work. He also told the board that Saint George's closed parallel taxiway and related restrictions have pushed some transient and training traffic to Hurricane; because the apron is scheduled for renovation this summer, the airport is limiting transient aircraft and preparing tie-down and parking plans during construction.
Chair (S1) notified the board that the Hurricane runway is scheduled for repaving in April with an estimated closure of two to three weeks; members were asked to expect increased requests for temporary tie-downs and operational adjustments while pavement and apron work proceeds.
What’s next: Airport staff will finalize the preconstruction schedule once shipments arrive and will notify pilots and tenants of any required closures or temporary procedures.
