The board heard an extended student voice report at the Jan. 28 meeting from student representative Christopher Szymanski and a public comment from freshman class president Julian Carty.
Szymanski summarized responses to the monthly student survey (100–180 responses) and said students want clearer information about the proposed unified campus, better communication about how concerns such as bullying are handled, and more instruction in practical technology skills (for example, accessing personal college emails on school devices). He reported student concerns about a state ban on cell phones: students said they feel less safe without phones and were generally unhappy with the change.
Szymanski also described a student-organized walkout in protest of ICE raids and said the event appeared to be student-led and orderly; teachers on site told him they had not organized it. He said students understood possible disciplinary consequences from skipping class but felt strongly about expressing their views.
Julian Carty, speaking during public comment, echoed student frustration about the pacing and clarity of information on unification and asked for more accessible, plain-language descriptions of what day-to-day changes might mean for students. "When this is proposed so early on...that gives a lot of time for rumors and speculation," he said.
Board members thanked student leaders for their presentations and said the administration would work to improve FAQ visibility and continue campus-level sessions and meetings to answer student questions.
