Washington Senate dispenses with journal, introduces bills and refers measures ahead of fiscal cutoff

The Washington State Senate convened Feb. 6, 2026, opened its session and promptly dispensed with the reading of the previous day's journal after a motion by Senator Richeli was adopted without objection.

Senator Richeli moved to "dispense with the reading of the journal" and to approve the prior day's business; the clerk recorded on the floor, "Hearing no objections, so ordered." That same senator then moved that the chamber advance to the fifth order of business, which the Senate approved without objection.

On introductions, the secretary read an entry for "Senate Bill 6351," scheduled for Monday, Feb. 9 (the 29th legislative day), and noted the measure was referred to the Ways and Means Committee. The clerk also read standing-committee reports that included a reference to "Senate Bill 5292" and to an "engrossed substitute house bill / senate bill 5466," with referrals noted to the Committee on Rules.

Senator Rochelli moved that the measures on the introductions and referrals report be sent to the committees as designated; that motion carried after the chair observed there were no objections. Later, upon reconvening, the Senate heard and moved to refer the evening's standing-committee reports and supplemental reports to the committees listed in each report; those motions were similarly approved without objection.

Senator Richeli also announced the chamber would "go at ease for the purpose of reading, in fiscal committee reports later in the day, because it is fiscal cutoff," and moved that the Senate "be at ease subject to the call of the president." The motion was approved.

Senator Rocelli closed the session by thanking staff and moving that the Senate adjourn until 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10, the 30th legislative day; the motion was adopted and the clerk announced, "Hearing no objection, the senate now stands adjourned."
