Commissioners approve 911 financing, courtroom audio appropriation and several administrative contracts

At the Jan. 27 meeting, Porter County commissioners approved several public-safety and administrative items, including a financing option for a new 911 recording system and consolidated courthouse audio work.
County staff presented a financing structure for a 911 recording system with an annual payment of $54,872.29 and a one-time closing cost of $250 to be paid from the 911 budget; staff said the financing avoided a large upfront equipment fee. Commissioners approved the financing approach by voice vote.
Staff also said courthouse courtrooms had historically contracted separately for audio systems and requested a consolidated approach using one vendor; the commission gave its blessing for staff to seek a $46,000 additional appropriation and take the request to the county council.
Other approvals included renewal of ADA/Title VI compliance documentation (to be submitted to NDOT with requested additions), acceptance of a quote for Cyber Geospatial GPS equipment and licensing for surveying tasks, and two professional services agreements: one with Richard Hill Hudson (not to exceed approximately $170,000 per year at $75/hour) for departmental testing services and one with Curtis S. Comminson (about $45/hour) for planning/video/ordinance assistance.
The Valparaiso events representative (Katie Abel) also received approval for five scheduled courthouse-ground events. All items were approved by voice vote.
