Parks staff to model options after Campspot raises reservation fees; decision deferred to March
Summary
Campspot notified Parks staff of increased reservation fees and new ‘growth package’ options that could raise costs. Staff will run numbers comparing keeping the $3 reservation fee versus vendor fee structures and return in March with recommendations.

Parks staff told the Vigo County Parks and Recreation Board that Campspot has updated its reservation pricing and offered several fee structures that would affect parks revenue. Staff described three broad options: keep the $3 reservation fee and absorb additional costs for offline bookings; accept a vendor growth package that charges 6% on reservations (replacing the existing 10% marketplace fee); or assign a small percentage (for example 3%) to offset some charges.
The staff said Campspot had informed them of the change on Feb. 1 and that the company offered a 6% growth package or an option that would reduce some marketplace fees but change per‑reservation charges. Staff estimated the difference could amount to roughly $15,000 in lost revenue under one scenario, but said they would run exact numbers and email them to board members before the March meeting.
“Campspot was very easy for the end user and for us to learn,” the staff member said, explaining the operational benefits of remaining on the platform. Staff recommended collecting data on how many offline reservations the county received last year and comparing revenue impacts across scenarios before making a change. The board set March as the follow‑up month for a decision.
