Huerfano County commissioners on Feb. 17 approved a land‑use exemption, vehicle permits for secure transport providers and several procurement items including fleet vehicles and workstations.
Staff (Speaker 1) described a request from Rhonda Lowe for an exemption under land‑use regulation section 2.04 to satisfy a Texas divorce decree that divides two roughly 36‑acre parcels at County Road 442 in LaVeta. The staff report noted the application was determined complete on 01/15/2026 and that approval would create two legally nonconforming lots as a result of the divorce decree. The planning commission had voted unanimously to forward the recommendation for approval. Speaker 3 moved to approve property number 26‑003; the motion passed on a roll‑call vote.
Separately, the board approved two secure transport vehicle permits (2026‑01 and 2026‑02) for DC Private Investigations and Security Consultants for 2024 Kia Sportages after staff confirmed the vehicles passed inspection and paperwork was on file.
The commissioners also approved procurement items including: - A lease for a commercial printer to be shared by IT and emergency management, $145.45 per month for 60 months (total $8,727). - A fleet order/lease for a 2026 Ford F‑350 for Public Works; staff noted a credit of $6,040.22 from sale of Ford Mavericks applied to the order and estimated delivery at 18–22 weeks. - A purchase of five Lenovo workstations and 24 Amazon Basics monitors; staff said these items are grant‑funded through a 2024 grant (transcript references the 'home stay home and security' grant). Staff presented combined and line amounts in different places in the record; the purchase was approved.
When asked what would happen to older tables and chairs replaced at the Westwood County Community Center, staff said usable items will be rotated to other facilities and worn items will be disposed of. "We've watched it with the latest practice of rotating things around different facilities as we need them," Speaker 4 said.
The exemption and purchases were approved by separate motions and roll‑call votes.
