The Irvine Unified School District Board of Education elected Jeff Kim as board president and appointed Lauren Brooks as board clerk during its Dec. 10 meeting.
The nominations were made from the dais and accepted by the nominees. Jeff Kim said, "I accept," after Cyril Yu nominated him and a colleague seconded the motion. The board completed a roll-call vote and the motion passed unanimously.
After the vote Kim took over meeting duties and the board moved on to appointing a clerk. Lauren Brooks accepted the clerk nomination and the board approved her appointment by roll-call vote. The board then approved a slate of board responsibilities and school-site liaison assignments for 2026.
Board members offered public remarks thanking outgoing leaders and highlighting governance priorities for the coming year. The meeting progressed to student reports and agenda items following the organizational votes.
The votes were taken in open session and recorded by roll call; the board proceeded without further challenge.
