Capistrano Unified School District officials announced a new partnership with the California State University system that will deliver conditional direct-admission notices to eligible seniors this fall.
In a short video shown at the board's Oct. 15 meeting, the district explained the three-tier flyer system: students who meet A–G course requirements and have at least a 2.5 GPA will receive a conditional offer to one of the 16 non-impacted CSU campuses; students near requirements will get guidance to consult counselors; students not meeting requirements will receive transfer-pathway information advising community-college routes. Staff said admitted students still must launch an application via californiacolleges.edu (which connects to Cal State Apply) and may face campus application fees.
Superintendent Dr. Chris Brown said district communications will distribute the flyers and recommended that counselors and teachers help students review next steps. “Our coordinator for college and career guidance Erica Gardner … has been instrumental in this work,” Brown said, noting the rollout will begin in late October or early November. Brown urged seniors and families to meet the March 2 financial-aid priority deadline for the FAFSA or Cal Grants.
The district advised families to contact their site college and career counselor with questions and said the program will include outreach through social media, classroom presentations and printed materials.
The board did not take a formal vote on the partnership during the meeting; staff presented the video and implementation steps as information and encouraged districtwide counselor outreach as the notices go out.
