Dearborn Heights honors student leader Hassan Al Haj Hassan for Model UN achievement

The Dearborn Heights City Council presented a certificate of recognition Feb. 17 to Crestwood High School senior Hassan Al Haj Hassan for leadership and fundraising that enabled his model United Nations team to attend the Harvard Model United Nations conference. Council members said Hassan helped raise $15,000 for the trip and that the team won an outstanding delegate award.
Hassan told the council the award was shared with teammates and thanked family members who supported him: "This award isn't mine. This award is for everyone in this room," he said. Council members and the mayor congratulated Hassan and invited the family for a photograph after the presentation.
The council noted Hassan's academic record (3.9 GPA) and his involvement in student leadership and community organizations. The presentation was part of the meeting's opening recognitions.
