Commission reviews finances and schedule for county budget and annual report
Summary
The commission reviewed financials and discussed the county budget schedule. Commission staff reviewed the commission’s current finances and laid out timing for the county budget process and the commission’s annual report.
Mr. Altschbern presented the financial update, reporting postage obligations rose from 4.7% to 9.3%, leaving a postage balance of $1,360.47; advertising obligations rose from 21.2% to 28.4%, with a remaining balance of $7,519.25 after a $750 invoice to a local vendor; professional services remained unchanged with $10,000 available. The commission’s overall available budget was reported at $18,879.72 with an obligation rate of 14.2%.
Members discussed the county budget timeline: Tony Petrucci, county clerk, formally submitted the county 2026–27 annual budget on Jan. 29. The county commission is continuing annual budget hearings, expects to meet with elected officials on March 5, and is expected to adopt the 2026–27 budget on March 12. Commission staff also reported the commission’s annual report will be shortened to about 15 pages (from a 34-page draft) by Matt Umstead, director of the Office of Strategic Planning and Communications, with two appendices to include the rules-and-regulations materials. Petrucci is scheduled to present the commission’s annual report on April 2 at 10:10 a.m. in this chamber.
No vote was required for the financial update. Commissioners were invited to submit last-minute edits to the annual report by noon the next day to avoid contractor update fees.
