Staff said the district will file a PCCD safety/mental-health grant application for $188,065 split between cameras and mental-health services and will pursue a competitive DCED grant to remove asbestos tiles estimated at $1.73 million, which would require a 25% local match (~$432,500) if awarded.
Mr. Weaver briefed the committee on two state grant opportunities staff is advancing.
First, the district plans to file a PCCD (Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency) safety-and-mental-health grant application totaling $188,065. Mr. Weaver said the figure is formula-driven (a base plus weighted average daily membership) and the district proposed splitting funds roughly in half: about $94,006.65 for camera upgrades (a Genetec system integrated with existing PSX infrastructure) and roughly $94,000 for contracted mental-health services. The application is noncompetitive and will be submitted by 02/27; staff said the committee will place a ratification item on the March board agenda.
Second, staff recommended applying to a competitive DCED grant for asbestos-tile removal at an estimated total project cost of $1,730,000. Mr. Weaver said DCED would fund 75% of the project; the district would need to commit to a 25% local match (about $432,500). The competitive application deadline was cited as 03/13/2026; staff noted procurement and formal bid estimates will follow and that the board will need to approve a resolution committing the local match if the district is awarded the grant.
Committee members asked whether the mental-health funding would pay for a district employee. Staff and Doctor Nicholson said it is typical for the PCCD funds to support contracted services rather than an ongoing district hire; the likely model would be a one-year contract for an outside provider, with future contracting contingent on grant availability. No awards are final; staff will submit the PCCD application on the stated deadline and prepare board materials for March ratification and for the DCED application process.
