Los Alamitos Unified recognizes parent volunteer Tiffany Capp and teacher Megan Avalos

Separately, the board and Superintendent Dr. Pulver surprised Megan Avalos as the district’s teacher of the year. Dr. Pulver highlighted Avalos’s work as a mentor in the district induction program, her several years as a summer-school administrator, and her willingness to step in as an interim assistant principal when needed. Principal Colty said Avalos writes personalized notes to former classes each fall and is a consistent presence in the school’s house-system work with students.
Both recognitions were framed as honors for service to students and colleagues. No formal board action accompanied either recognition; both were ceremonial items on the meeting agenda. The board recessed after the recognitions to take photos.
