Board approves 2024-25 budget, consolidated application and amends superintendent contract 5-0

The Cypress School District Board of Trustees approved three formal items June 20: the district's 2024-25 budget, the district's 2024-25 consolidated application to the California Department of Education, and an amendment to the superintendent's employment contract.

Budget and consolidated application Trustees voted by voice to adopt the 2024-25 Cypress School District budget (document described in the meeting as approximately 134 pages) after staff presentations. Trustee Kearns moved to adopt the budget and Trustee Tanaka seconded; the motion passed with no recorded opposition. The board likewise approved the district's 2024-25 consolidated application to the California Department of Education; Trustee Hayashida moved and Trustee Sande seconded that item.

Superintendent contract amendment (roll-call vote) The board read an oral summary of a proposed contract amendment required to be presented in open session under state law. The amendment, as summarized by the board president, contains three terms: a 3% increase to the superintendent's salary schedule effective July 1, 2024; extension of the superintendent's term of employment through June 30, 2027; and an adjustment to the contract's definition of a "positive evaluation" to match the district's existing rating structure.

Because the amendment affects a local agency executive, the vote was taken by roll call. Trustees Tanaka, Kern, Hayashida, Sande and President Lee each voted "yes," and the measure passed 5-0.

The board adjourned at 7:24 p.m. and announced its next meeting for Friday, July 12 at 10:00 a.m.
