Committee adopts substitute allowing PEOs to report wages under their own account
Summary
A substitute for Senate Bill 263 was accepted to permit professional employer organizations and similar entities to report unemployment wages under their own unemployment account, and to require the Department of Jobs and Family Services director to recalculate experience ratings once the election is made.
Senate Bill 263 was presented for a second hearing and the committee accepted substitute bill 1674-1 as the working document. Vice Chair Lang said the substitute permits professional employer organizations (PEOs), alternative employer organizations and reporting entities to report unemployment wages and contributions for shared or worksite employees under the organization’s own unemployment account rather than a separate subaccount.
Lang also said the substitute requires the director of the Department of Jobs and Family Services to recalculate an organization’s experience rating once the organization notifies the director of its election, and that entities would have 60 days after the bill takes effect to make that selection.
No outside testimony was submitted for Senate Bill 263 during the hearing and the committee concluded the second hearing after adopting the substitute as the working document.
