Board approves $25,000 APS increase to county utility-assistance contract

The Coconino County Board of Supervisors approved an amendment on Feb. 17 to increase APS funding for the county’s utility-assistance program by $25,000, raising the contract award from $83,010 to $108,010 for the contract period July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
Michelle Oxland, representing Health and Human Services, told the board the APS increase will provide roughly four and a half additional months of assistance under the program and described recent program use: HHS has assisted 73 families to date with an average assisted bill of about $450. To qualify, households must make below 200% of the federal poverty limit (Oxland noted a family of four would be required to make less than $60,000 annually).
The program allows assistance up to twice per year and up to $1,000 per household. Oxland said residents can apply online or by phone for help.
Supervisor Fowler pulled the consent item for information and moved its approval; the board approved the amendment by voice vote.
