Brookfield selectboard approves minutes, tax-credit, online payment setup and other routine actions

The board approved the public and nonpublic minutes for Feb. 3, 2026 and voted to grant an all-veteran tax credit for Deborah Conley (436 Wentworth Road), which the assessing office (Aracessa Clark) had reviewed and recommended. The chair moved both items and the motions carried by voice vote.
On tax payments, the board corrected an omission from the Feb. 3 discussion by formally authorizing the tax collector, Rose, to pursue a credit-card processing software package (the vendor name "Numo" was mentioned earlier in the record). The chair said the system would operate like existing town payment platforms and that any merchant fees would be charged to customers rather than the town. The board also approved opening a designated tax clearing account at Profile Bank to accept credit-card receipts; board members discussed access and signature requirements and confirmed the bank account will be governed by the towns standard signature policy.
After members requested one clarification to exclude trust fund assets from the town investment policy language, the board approved the 2026 investment policy as amended. The selectboard also approved a request to allow Doran (Doren/Dorian) Independent Insurance Group to use town facilities for a Medicare 101 educational event on March 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. The groups presentation was described as educational and no sales or money would be collected at the event.
Other approvals included a $500 payment to Kendall (Pindell) Electric to run Cat5 cable from the server to the town clerks office, and the board approved the manifest (accounts payable) as presented; the manifest subtotal cited in the meeting was $230,033. The board addressed a housekeeping matter from the tax collector about handling pennies (banks no longer providing pennies): staff will await recommendations from the Board of Tax Collectors Association and continue current practice of credits or rounding for cash payments in the meantime.
Several community items were announced: the town election is March 10 and the town meeting is March 14, a dog-licensing event on April 18 tied to Earth Day, and the Brookfield Agricultural Commission will hold a seed swap on March 16.
