County approves application for victim-witness advocate grant for 2027–2028

Granite County commissioners on Feb. 17 approved submission of the Victim/Witness Advocate Program grant application for 2027–2028 and authorized the signature page required by the state.
County staff described the program as state-funded and indicated there is no required local match. "It's a grant we've had for ... the last 20 years. It's been approved every year for the last 20 years consistently," county staff said, adding the grant pays for the advocate's wage and program services that the county would otherwise struggle to fund.
Public commenter Derek Campbell asked whether the application would commit the county to obligations similar to a previous local situation; staff replied that the grant is routine, requires reporting and program administration, but does not create an in-kind or local-match obligation.
The board voted to approve the application and authorized the signature page; commissioners recorded the motion and the voice vote in the meeting minutes.
