Station 4 renovation moves forward; citywide exhaust capture system proposed

Assistant Fire Chief of Administration (Mark) told the Fire Commission that Station 4’s renovation is progressing and that final drawings have only minor outstanding changes. He said he expects to include the final drawings as an attachment for commissioners and anticipates RFPs for construction contracts in the coming months, with work likely to start around August.
Mark also described a planned request for next year to replace and upgrade the department’s apparatus exhaust capture systems and install filtration for gear locker rooms at stations that lack proper ventilation. He said many existing parts are original and more than 25 years old and that a consolidated bid package and single vendor relationship should improve efficiency and maintenance response.
On facilities management, he said staff met with Guardian about a transition and that the contractor will include line items covering all stations; site visits are planned when weather permits. Commissioners welcomed the progress and raised no motions.
