Finance committee recommends Aztec Construction bid for Kiwanis Park wetlands project

The City of Cheyenne finance committee on Feb. 18 recommended that the governing body accept Aztec Construction’s low bid of $487,650 for the Kiwanis Park veil and constructed-wetlands project.
Jean Shrednick, Parks and Greenway Planner, said the city secured Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality grant funding for the project and listed community contributions: $80,000 from the Kiwanis Club, $2,500 from High Plains Audubon Society, $3,000 from the Greenway Foundation, $800 from the Women’s Civic League and $1,000 from the conservation district. Shrednick said the project has been years in development and is intended to improve habitat and trails.
Committee members asked about interpretive signage and protections for nesting birds; Shrednick said educational signage will be installed and parts of the park will close for nesting season (approximately April 1 to July 15). She also described two corten-steel bird blinds being fabricated for wildlife viewing; the Cheyenne Audubon Society identified 52 species at the existing wetlands pond.
Councilman Wolf moved to accept the bid; the committee voted unanimously to recommend approval to the governing body.
