West Chester council keeps .com domain, awards traffic signal contract and approves appointments and events

At its Feb. 18 meeting West Chester Borough Council approved several operational and administrative items:
Domain name: Council debated whether to migrate the borough website to a .gov address for perceived security benefits, but staff reported the borough already owns westchester.org and can redirect it to the existing site while retaining the .com address. The council voted on a motion not to migrate to .gov and to continue using the current domain approach; staff said they can note both domains as available. One council member credited Bill Mann with proposing the .org redirect.
Traffic signal maintenance contract: Council awarded a traffic signal maintenance contract (bid opened Feb. 6) to Kucharczyk Construction for $335,000 after staff described a rebid process prompted by an incomplete submission from another bidder. Public works staff recommended acceptance of Kucharczyk as the responsive bidder.
Appointments: The council appointed Michelle McPherson to the Human Relations Commission; Genevieve Mack and Jennifer Salvo to the Library Board of Directors; and Sean Berry as an alternate to the Zoning Hearing Board.
Special events: Keith Kurowski, director of Parks and Recreation, explained a slate of special event applications: several returning 5Ks on the Southwest loop, moving the parade back to Wednesday night, and a planned 'America 250' celebration organized by the West Chester Area Council of Governments. Council approved the applications.
Consent agenda: Following discussion and votes on the above items the council approved the consent agenda and adjourned at 7:37 p.m.
