EMA warns residents to prepare as county plans school and TVA drills

Bedford County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) representative Doug told the Public Safety Committee that recent winter storms showed the county "dodged a bullet" and highlighted the need for individual and household preparedness. He said the EMA is posting resources on the agency's Facebook page and website and urged residents to use the information.
Doug previewed two upcoming exercises: a school drill in March at Liberty that will involve some public-safety personnel, and a March 17 exercise organized by the Tennessee Valley Authority at the Tennessee Fire Academy that will include local, county, state and federal participants. He said the TVA drill will be a major multi-agency exercise focusing on flood-type scenarios, which the county has not frequently practiced.
"We really haven't done a flood type scenario thing," Doug said, adding that exercises help agencies identify gaps and improve coordination. The EMA representative encouraged residents to check the county's social media and website for preparedness tips during severe-weather week.
Committee members thanked EMA staff and had no further questions.
