The sheriff said there were 308 investigations and 71 traffic accidents in January, 14 of which involved injuries. The department logged 184 traffic stops and provided court security during 32 sessions, where deputies processed 1,699 individual court cases and managed 4,295 people entering the court complex. Deputies served 39 criminal or civil warrants and took 19 people into custody on warrants or court-related charges.
The sheriff also summarized drug-task-force results: the task force opened about 20 investigations in January and identified or arrested 34 defendants; officers confiscated three firearms and multiple controlled substances, including marijuana, crystal meth, powdered cocaine, crack cocaine and fentanyl. The sheriff noted that some defendants were out on bond at the time of the recent offenses.
On corrections finances, a sheriff's office finance representative reported January receipts: $2,760 in sheriff's fees, $1.28 in comp fees, $16,251.24 from phone accounts, and $30,244 collected for housing inmates from DeKalb County. He said outside work crews saved the county an estimated $36,960 and internal work crews saved $93,465; the jail population was 358 at the time of the report.
Committee members asked no further substantive questions and thanked the sheriff for the report.
