Fire department reports $36,036 State Fire Marshal grant; 9-1-1 center progressing toward April move-in

Speaker 2, the fire department presenter at the Courthouse and Property Committee meeting, reported the county received a State Fire Marshal grant this year for $36,036.
"We did receive a state fire marshal grant this year for $36,036," Speaker 2 said, and added that several county agencies contributed information to the applications. He also said the department assisted in preparing grant material for Wartrace and Bell Buckle.
On construction and access to the new 9-1-1 center, Speaker 2 said public access is limited for safety and security. Visitors should schedule a visit with Philip and must wear hard hats and safety vests and meet with the project manager before entering the site.
Speaker 2 described construction progress: floors have been leveled to allow cables underneath and crews are preparing wiring for radios and AT&T connections. He said the project is "moving forward" and that staff expect to take the "next step" in wiring by April, but added a definitive cutover date had not been set.
The committee did not take formal action on the grant announcement during the meeting; Speaker 2 said the grant will be coming to the department. No objections or dissent were recorded during the report.
