HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson city officials told residents at an information session that voters will decide March 3 on whether to authorize a 0.75 percentage-point general retailer sales tax for 10 years, effective Oct. 1, 2026, that the city says would fund streets, parks and stormwater and would allow the city to eliminate the current stormwater utility fee.
Angela Richard, the city’s finance director, read the ballot language and said the tax, if approved, would be effective 10/01/2026 with collections beginning in December 2026 because of a two-month reporting lag from retailers to the state. "Voters are being asked whether the city council should be authorized to levy an additional .75% general retailer sales tax for 10 years effective 10/01/2026, and expiring 09/30/2036," Richard said during the presentation.
