Montgomery EDC approves relocation resolution for Ravenfold House, sets public hearing for North Lot

The Montgomery Economic Development Corporation voted on Feb. 17 to establish a structured relocation and site-preparation project for the historic Ravenfold House and to authorize a public hearing for Phase 1 expenditures, with Phase 1 as drafted directed to the North Lot.

The action followed an extended debate over whether to place the relocated house on the North Lot or the South Lot. Concerns raised during the discussion included drainage and stormwater work needed on the South Lot, outstanding permissions from TxDOT for highway access, parking and setback requirements, and whether changing the site would require amendments to the adopted comprehensive plan and additional council approvals.

“Are we all in favor of that?” a board member asked before moving the resolution. Speaker 2 moved to accept item 8 as presented, and Carol seconded the motion. After a voice vote, the motion carried and the board authorized the public hearing and Phase 1 expenditures targeted at the North Lot.

Board members who opposed the vote asked that their objections be entered into the record and reiterated the practical concerns: the South Lot, they said, has unresolved drainage and roadwork that could delay the project; moving the house without completed site preparation could limit parking and programmatic options. The minutes record repeated warnings that some site and utility work, including traffic access, would need separate approvals.

Next steps: the board authorized staff to schedule the public hearing required for Phase 1 expenditures and to carry the resolution through the required public-notice process. The item will also be considered at a special EDC meeting set for March 17, 2026, for further procedural actions.
