Committee advances $125,000 reallocation to replace Walton Hills event center roof

The Community Development and Housing Committee advanced Resolution 20250114 to the full council, which would award up to $125,000 from the District 6 ARPA Community Grant Fund to the Village of Walton Hills for roof replacement at the Walton Hills event center and an associated six‑bay storage facility.
Rob Kalman, street commissioner for Walton Hills, told the committee the village had previously been awarded $250,000 in ARPA funds in 2023 to repair its village hall roof but completed that project for $110,000 and has asked to reallocate the remaining funds to replace the event center roof and a smaller storage building. Kalman said the event center is approximately 12,000 square feet and the storage facility is about 3,000 square feet and that the figures presented are cost estimates that will go out to bid.
Committee members asked about village population and procurement. Kalman said Walton Hills has about 2,400 residents, that the numbers given are estimates (not yet bid), and that he oversees village projects. Committee members described the project as valid and moved the item forward to the full council for second reading.
If the full council approves the resolution, the village will proceed to solicit bids and complete procurement per county and local rules; the committee did not take final appropriation action at this meeting.
