Summary
The sheriff reported a joint pursuit that began in Bloomington and ended in Gibson County where county drone teams assisted the arrest; he also described a farm medical emergency where an AED and a Lucas device helped save a life.
The Gibson County Sheriff (Speaker 6) gave a detailed department report highlighting recent staffing activity and two major public-safety incidents.
He said the sheriff’s office has been recruiting—sending eight invitations for one deputy position and interviewing for community corrections—and that several applicants are in background checks for detention and dispatch roles.
On public-safety operations, the sheriff described a multi-agency pursuit that began in Bloomington and ended inside Gibson County. “The big drone did overwatch and the small drone basically flew right up to the front of the car,” he said, describing how officers forced entry and secured the suspect without a reported weapon. He credited state police and multiple local agencies for the joint effort.
He also described a separate life-saving response at a farm where a deputy used an AED and Gibson County ambulance crews used a Lucas automated chest-compression device; the deputy delivered three shocks and performed compressions until the ambulance’s device took over. The sheriff said the patient was still alive when last reported and announced a life-saving award for Zach Lineman, who works full time at South Gibson and part time for the sheriff’s office.
Commissioners thanked the sheriff for the update; no formal action was taken on these operational items during the meeting.
