Senate advances bill allowing cities to permit golf carts on sidewalks under local ordinance

The Senate reported SB 367 favorably after sponsors explained the measure authorizes cities to permit golf carts on sidewalks via local ordinance.
Senator Klimt described the bill as a measure giving municipal governing bodies authority to allow the driving of golf carts on sidewalks as defined by KSA 8-1495, provided the driver is at least 16 years old and holds a valid Class C driver's license. "We have a complicated golf cart bill today...the governing body of any city is hereby authorized by ordinance to allow the driving of a golf cart on a sidewalk...If the driver of a golf cart is a person 16 years of age or older and hold the valid class c driver's license," Klimt said.
The sponsor said the bill simplifies the statute and gave cities local control to set ordinances; after explanation there were no recorded opponents and the Senate moved the bill forward on the original bill.
What's next: SB 367 was reported favorably by the committee and the Senate passed the motion to report the bill to the full body.
