The Senate reported SB 364 favorably after adopting an amendment to change how youth lifetime hunting and fishing license fees are set.
Senator Kelly Peck explained the bill to reinstate a lifetime combination hunting and fishing license for residents age 65 and older at a heavily discounted rate, saying the provision had existed from 2012 through 2020 and had lapsed. "Section 1 of the bill will reinstate the combination hunting and fishing license for individuals age 65 and above. They will pay 1 eighth of the fee for the general public," the senator said.
Under current law a lifetime combination license for young children had fixed fees; SB 364 initially set specific dollar amounts for ages 5 and under and 6–15. Senator Francisco offered an amendment to change those fixed figures to percentages of the general lifetime fee so youth costs would float if the general fee changed: the amendment set 1/3 of the lifetime fee for ages 5 and under and 1/2 for ages 6–15. Francisco explained the amendment and provided approximate dollar equivalents in the hearing.
Peck noted the bill removes the sunset date previously attached to the children's provision (07/01/2032), so the youth pricing would remain in law until the Legislature changed it. The body adopted the amendment and reported the bill as amended for passage.
What's next: SB 364, as amended, moves forward after the Committee of the Whole reported the amendment and favorable passage to the floor.
