At the Feb. 17 meeting resident Nicole Watts urged council to improve transparency and communications. Watts asked that items listed as 'old business' remain there until fully resolved and recommended that minutes include action steps and deadlines so the public can follow progress.
Watts also asked why some boards (for example, the Renaissance board) are not recorded; she said the board controls significant city funds and residents should be able to view proceedings. Council members and staff discussed options including quarterly printed newsletters, email blasts, use of third-party alert systems such as ReachAlert, and a website hub for consolidated information. Staff said collecting and maintaining an email list is time-consuming but that they would research costs and return with recommendations during budget planning.
Council noted the city has posted certain documents online, and staff agreed to attach consultant and attorney reports to future agendas when feasible. No formal policy changes were adopted on Feb. 17.
