City engineer: lighting gap on Mound Road will be completed after Comcast rec‑out; Metro Parkway lighting also expected by April

Sterling Heights — City engineer Brent Bayshaw updated council on two street‑lighting efforts, saying most work is complete but a mile‑and‑a‑half gap on Mound Road remains until franchise utilities finish rec‑out work.
Bayshaw explained that monopoles were erected on the east side of Mound Road and that franchise utilities (power and communications providers) needed to transfer services to the new poles before the old poles could be removed and final street lights installed. He said Comcast was the final utility to transfer off the old lines last week, enabling pole removal work to proceed and allowing DTE’s lighting crew to schedule the final installations.
"All the streetlight material has been ordered and is in stock," Bayshaw said, and he estimated the final lighting work would take about four to six weeks to complete once crews begin, with work expected to occur in late February or early March and finish in April. He also provided an update on a three‑mile Metro Parkway lighting project from Van Dyke to the eastern city limits: conduit installation is ahead of poles and pole installation began recently, with projected completion in April.
Bayshaw urged patience from residents and thanked the council for their support while multiple utility transfers and complex right‑of‑way work conclude.
