Commissioners discussed whether to open an application period and interview candidates or delay the process; several said they wanted more time to ensure applicants have a fair opportunity and to avoid disadvantaging potential candidates given tight filing deadlines. The board agreed to table the appointment until the next meeting so counsel can provide additional research and clearer process steps.
