Florence — The Florence Town Council voted Feb. 17 to replace the Florence Community Center signage so it reads "Viny Jones Library and Community Center," giving the library’s namesake prominent placement on the building exterior.
Public comments earlier in the meeting included several family members and relatives who described Viney/Viny Jones’s decades-long work building literacy programs and services at the library. During new business, staff presented two sign designs and price estimates (approximately $16,158–$16,396). Council members favored Option 2 because it matched the town’s existing facility-branding treatments and would weather better with a marine-grade finish the town said would withstand sun and occasional rain.
Council discussion focused on ordering of text, durability of finishes and the town logo’s presence. Multiple council members said the library name should appear first to honor the dedication. Councilmember 20 moved to approve the second signage option with wording "Viny Jones Library and Community Center." The motion passed by voice vote.
